Students from Trinity High School attend Peace and Justice Summit

Earlier in April, a group of students from Trinity High School, a sponsored ministry of the SSJ-TOSF located in Garfield Heights, Ohio, attended the Catholic Schools for Peace and Justice (CSPJ) Summit sponsored by the Diocese of Cleveland. CSPJ is a network of students and educators from Catholic high schools in the diocese, supported by the Diocesan Social Action Office, and rooted in Catholic Social Teaching.

In attendance were junior students Nicole Bullock, Carmen Fini, Alicia Geyer, Avery Jester, Brad Koblin, Kelly Maloney, Zach Mammana, Alex Reese, Ryan Sigmund, and Megan Smith. Collectively, they wrote the following reflection on their experience at the summit.

Catholic Schools for Peace and Justice Summit 2017 was an eye opening experience, which educated and motivated young people to live out their faith and shed light on social issues many young people may not be aware of.

We learned we need to be the voice for the voiceless. So many people so close to us suffer, but we can help those people to live an equal life. We had the chance to learn more about the problems our country is facing today, such as aiding undocumented immigrants who are struggling to start a new life here, a refugee's journey and what they endure, fair trade, and the many ways we can help to improve these things. Overall, this trip was a really neat experience. It is so important to raise awareness about these topics in the younger generation to help prepare us for future obstacles our world will face.

As Catholics, it is part of our mission to not only make sure these people have a safe place to live, but also all the tools necessary to begin rebuilding their lives.
