Bishop Roger Gries, OSB, left, anoints the hands of Sister Charlyne Berube during The Village at Marymount's seventh Mission Day Mass on May 25.
Bishop Roger Gries, OSB, officiated over The Village at Marymount's seventh annual "Year of Mercy" Mission Day Mass on May 25 at the outdoor Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine. For the past five years the Mass has grown to include all the ministries on the Marymount Intergenerational Health and Education Campus, including Marymount Hospital, Marymount Child Care Center, Trinity High School, the Franciscan Center, and The Village at Marymount.
Trinity High School provided altar servers and enhanced the celebration in a special way with one of the school's choir groups getting everyone singing along under the direction of Jennifer Cochran. Bishop Roger anointed the hands of all attendees so that they may be "strengthened for work that lies ahead."
"May you always be respectful of each other, compassionate to the human needs of your students, residents and patients, and both tender and strong in your ministry," Bishop Roger said in the Admonition. The Mass concluded with the Trinity High School Choir singing a rousing rendition of Darlene Zschech's "Shout to the Lord."
Sister Mary Alice Jarosz initiated the Mission Day Mass within a year of becoming Director of Mission Integration in 2009. Since most of her religious life and ministry has been focused on the campus, she couldn't help but go beyond The Village at Marymount and include everyone on campus.
"After all, to me that is the true meaning of 'integration' – bringing all these related entities together to celebrate the good we have done, the good we are doing, and the good that, in true Franciscan style, is still ours to do," Sister Mary Alice said.
Plans are already underway for next year's celebration. All campus staff members will be encouraged to attend the Mass.
