Sr. Carlene Blavat has been named the 2012 distinguished alumni by the Stevens Point Area Catholic Schools.
She was honored during a luncheon ceremony at Pacelli High School on May 3. Fr. Tom Lindner, current co-president of the school system, presented her the award, noting her years of faithful service within the parish, schools and diocese.
"We are grateful to Sr. Carlene for her wonderful works of charity and service and the inspiration she has provided to so many through the years," he said. "We are fortunate to be able to honor her with this well-deserved recognition."
Sr. Carlene said she was flattered, honored and humbled by the award and jokingly added that she was glad she became "distinguished" before she was "extinguished."
She also will be a featured speaker at the high school's graduation ceremony on June 1.
Sr. Carlene graduated from the former St. Joseph Academy in 1954 and entered the SSJ-TOSF in 1955. She taught English and business classes at Maria and Pacelli high schools.
