Homeless shelter open one year

Benjamin's House Emergency Shelter will celebrate its one-year anniversary on March 4. Learn more about their new executive director and other staff in a recent newsletter.

The shelter in Rice Lake, Wisc., is a ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis.

Benjamin's House Emergency Shelter serves all of Barron County in providing those in need with a temporary home. Since opening February 28, 2011, we have served more than 130 individuals, offering shelter and assistance with obtaining employment and independent housing. With the knowledge and assistance of staff, residents are provided individual case management.

Save the date and spend March 4 with us. Whether it's a first time visit or a familiar stop, please come enjoy a tour of the shelter, a picture slideshow, and the opportunity to talk with staff. We encourage anyone interested in volunteering to take advantage of the day to share with us how we may best utilize your talents! We welcome fresh faces and the unique skills accompanying each one. Please consider our many opportunities to volunteer, including but never limited to serving meals, fixing up a room, or working on homework with school age children. Perhaps you volunteered with us in the past. Please visit with us to see the positive imprint you and others have left in our home. You are witness to the strength found in working together.
